Jussie Smollett was summoned to an emergency court appearance in Chicago yesterday where he was informed that all charges against him had been dropped by State Attorney Kim Foxx.
In a statement, prosecutors said:
After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case.
Smollett was facing 16 charges of felony disorderly conduct for filing a false police report back in January. Even though the case is more or less over, CPD and Chicago’s mayor Rahm Emanuel still believe the whole thing was a hoax. Not to mention a complete waste of time and resources.
“He used the hate crime laws to advance his own career and he got caught,” Emanuel said on CNN yesterday. “It was all a hoax and a moral violation.”
