Pete Buttigieg sat down with Now This News for a lightning round of hard-hitting questions about a wide range of important issues, including his favorite curse word, whether hot dogs are sandwiches (spoiler: they’re not!), who would play him in a movie, his first job, his worst habit, his karaoke go-to song, and so much more.
Watch.
In our new series '20 Questions for 2020,' we talk to the candidates to find out who they are, why they’re running, & where they stand on the issues that matter most

I like him as a candidate, he’s intelligent, knows what he’s talking about and would be a good candidate this early at least. In saying that, and I guess it ultimately doesn’t matter, but he’s about as interesting as a leaf. No personality. Fitting he chose Matt Damon to play him, the most boring actor in the world.

My first time really hearing him speak like this. I liked this very much. You are right, there is not a bright light of personality there, but I think I see a kind of quiet, almost gleam in the eye kind of life in the guy. I do like what he said however. Alot.

WTF _ WHY did ‘Now This’ ask so many inane questions that don’t define a qualified Presidential candidate?? What a shameful interview (by a 5th grader, I’m guessing)!
What about real issues affecting the LGBTQ community? What about HIV/AIDS discrimination- especially the elderly, the U.S is ranked lowest in HIV suppression, cost/availability of HIV drugs, food & housing for people with HIV/AIDS, non-coverage of HIV drugs by Medicare/Medicaid, funds for HIV programs & education, more community-centers for marginalized & homeless youth?
What about the slaughter of transgender women, especially among women of color? What do you say, Pete? …………….(crickets)

evanxx – WHY must there be a ton of LGBTQ questions? Just because the man is gay? Your comment feels kind of hostile. You have asked a great deal of questions around HIV, and I suspect most of America would want to know the man, his values, and some core beliefs first. When all the issues are important, it’s hard to fit them all in with just 20 questions. I applaud his ability to be as natural as he was, and apparently speak from his heart (or so it seemed to me). Certainly there must be alot of prep and practice questions, posturing on important issues he will be interviewed on, and contrary to these being inane questions, I think they brought out the untrained responses, and some good innate answers from him – Even if it was about Karaoke.
I’m as gay as the next queer around here – but I will a) assume much of his leanings are in support of our community and b) find out those details later in more detail. For now, this was a good snapshot for me – I had never really heard him speak this way before. I liked it.

dontmakemesayit _ What a pathetic interview! Talking about hot dogs & his bio-movie won’t win the Presidential race! Such inane questions will NOT help me or anyone else decide which candidate they will support & campaign for. Talking about the real issues people are facing will help us decide! Since there is only one “openly gay” candidate running (I wish we had another choice), then we are waiting for him to address the important LGBTQ issues. Pete has NEVER talked about the current HIV/AIDS crisis. WHY? Probably because he was 7 years old during the first AIDS holocaust in America. He has never experienced the LGBTQ sense of “family” since he came out very recently.
