The 36th annual Long Beach Pride Parade embarked under a light morning drizzle on Sunday, so the spirit of Barbra Streisand singing “Don’t Rain on My Parade” had to be more figurative than literal.

And it was, as participants and spectators, including the 100 volunteers tasked with carrying a 112-foot quilted rainbow flag, didn’t let a little rainfall dampen the mood.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York City, and all around the world, Pride will take on even greater significance as we look back on the achievements of the gay rights movement, and forward at fights yet to be won.
