PHOTOS: Jenna Eagleton and Caroline Currie just got one hell of a wedding present: The couple won Real Maine Wedding magazine’s $100,000 Wedding of the Year contest.
The magazine announced Eagleton and Currie as winners on Sunday at the Maine Wedding Association Bridal Show in Freeport. They’ve planned to get hitched in October in Kennebunkport—the prize money includes a reception, a wedding dress, tuxedos, rings, flowers and limo service.
Marriage equality passed in Maine in November—Currie and Eagleton planned to get married in 2014, but Currie’s father has been diagnosed with leukemia.

$100,000 for a wedding? Seriously? I’d think that money would be better spent as a donation to an LGBT cause.

@pierre: Totally agree with you. It’s nice that a lesbian couple won a prize that would previously have gone to a straight couple, but $100K !!! A nice chunk of that could have gone to one of the groups working on the fight for gay marriage.

@pierre: @sfbeast: I know Jenna and Caroline personally. They are a great couple and deserving to win this contest as do the other couples in the contest.
They do not get $100,000 cash to have a wedding. What they won are goods and services worth up to that $100k for their dream wedding. Their wedding will be featured in the magazine that sponsored the contest much like the Today Show does in their contest. The fact that they won should be a testament to the marriage equality movement.
