At 2:18 EST yesterday, nearly every cellphone user in America received a text message from Donald Trump. And people weren’t happy about it.
It read:
The message was sent to 75% of the cellphones in America and was a test of the new presidential alert system.
The way the system is works is the president sends an alert to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which then sends it out to every cellphone in the country.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
The alerts aren’t supposed to be used for any purpose other than “to transmit a message that does not relate to a natural disaster, act of terrorism, or other man-made disaster or threat to public safety.”
Of course, with Donald Trump in charge, people don’t have much faith that he won’t abuse the system.
The internet’s response to the alert was pretty unified. It seems nobody–not a single American–wants Trump texting them.
First, the tweets…

Presidential Alert: THIS IS A TEST of the American Democratic Alert System. Our president is dangerous, reckless, ignorant, hostile to women, hostile to critics, friendly to enemies, callous to victims, harmful to our environment…Urgent action is needed.
