Keiynan Lonsdale as Bayard Rustin

HBO Max just offered us a trip through the annals of LGBTQ history, guided by some of the biggest out-queer names in Hollywood. The trailer for the new series Equal, debuting October 22, has arrived.

The four-part series tracks the progress of LGBTQ rights from the dawn of the 20th century, when coming out could mean ridicule, prison, or worse, all the way up to the present day. Combining documentary footage with reenactments, the show will examine the lives and influence of such queer icons as Christine Jorgensen, Sylvia Rivera, Bayard Rustin, Phyllis Lyon and Harry Hay.

The subject matter alone would give us ample reason to watch. The all-star cast seals the deal. Keiynan Lonsdale, Samara Wiley, Sarah Gilbert, Cheyenne Jackson, Sam Pancake, Anthony Rapp, Gale Harold, Shannon Purser, Isis King, Hailee Sahar, Heather Matarazzo, Theo Germaine, Jamie Clayton and more all appear. Billy Porter also provides narration to the series.

Have a look, and feel your heart swell with pride (and Pride). Equal premieres October 22 on HBO Max.
