For anyone that enjoys men in tights…pay attention!
HBO stole the show at the San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, courtesy of the first trailer for the network’s much-anticipated new series Watchmen.

For the uninitiated, Watchmen is widely considered the greatest graphic novel ever penned. Indeed, Time ranked it as one of the 100 greatest novels of the 20th century. Unlike the classic tales of DC or Marvel Comics, however, Watchmen takes a decidedly real-world approach to the characters and their psychologies. Accordingly, the story also presents an in-depth examination of the sexual identities of its subjects. That includes featuring several queer characters.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
The original novel took place in 1985, and culminated with a major event that destroyed New York City. It became a film in 2009, directed by Zack Snyder, though it somewhat toned down the sexual elements of the story. The new HBO series more closely follows the original book and picks up in the present day. We therefore also hope it retains the queerness of the saga.
With a mix of characters from the novel and several original characters, the show examines the aftermath of the destruction of New York, and how the world has changed because of omnipresent costumed vigilantes. Among the cast: Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias, the smartest man alive, who also has an attraction to other men. Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons takes on the role.
Fellow Oscar-winners Regina King and Louis Gossett Jr. also star, along with Tim Blake Nelson, Jean Smart, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, and Frances Fisher. Sci-fi writer Damon Lindeloff (Lost, Prometheus) serves as showrunner and lead writer.
Watchmen comes to HBO this October.

May I point out, that the gay character in Watchmen was the villain of the story, so actually more of a typical mainstream media trope and stereotype than a “queer representation”.

Ah, but that was the true dilemma of “watchmen” – is he really a Villain? He killed millions but saved billions. Thats what made the comic brilliant. You can argue either way and it leaves it unresolved.

This looks more like a netflix series than an HBO one.

May I point out that Hooded Justice in the trailer is gay, a hero, and preceded Ozymandius. Also the series is derived from the characters and plot of the original so will not me “more true” to the original

Are you trying to imply I’m wrong about the original movie?
I’d love for them to actually follow the story from the comic series and maybe, just maybe, because this isn’t a big budget Hollywood film like the other, they will have an actual gay superhero.

Please pay attention. I was commenting on he article regarding the plot line. Hooded Justice (mostly absent from the movie) is in the trailer.

When they say “Queer Super hero” It seems to be that they won’t have a gay, lesbian, or trans hero. They’re going to have a woman that will kiss another woman once or twice, or a guy who will end up with a woman. Hopefully they don’t pull any of that.

WOW this looks RIVETING!
